Under the Tuscan Sun

For this months Issue...

Diane Lane stars in what should be labeled a "chick flick."  Renting this movie was not all my taking, the graphic design done on the box cover is masterful. The combination of color and graphic is superb. Unfortunately that is where the props end. Boy, do they end quickly.

A quick synopsis of the film goes something like this.  A book reviewer turning writer learns of her husbands adultery.  She kinda flips and goes on some trip her friends force on her. She moves to Italy. Thats it... That is the plot, the entire story and pretty much all you need to know about this movie except that it sucked.

Diane Lanes character Frances is the only character that actually gets developed to some point, but even so, not to the extent it could be.  The other supporting characters are quite random and poorly placed. It is as though the plot equaled the character development, a big hodge podge of disarray.  Frances love story was horrible, and the one that she ended up with (as far as I could tell by the wuick end of the movie) we saw in maybe 2 scenes.  The sub plot of a young polsih man and a young italian girl was spotty and poorly put together also.

You can guess the cinematography was wonderful.  There was ranging landscapes of the beautiful Tuscany country side to well shot scenes from within the city.  It was the only bright spot within the movie really. There was absolutely no action, no real sexy moments, unless you calls eeing Diane Lanes panties sexy, and the acting was poor at best. The fact that Frances has all this money to buy and live in Tuscany with no means of a job are amazing. Can I live in that little world for a couple years, I mean living high off the hog, eating great and living in some remodeled Villa in the middle of a beautiful country? Where do I sign up. The shear unb eleivableness is enough to turn you off. I seen more realism in a Star Wars film.

I am not sure a movie could be much worse. A chick flick it was, but even a Chick who likes those flicks would be severely dissappointed.  I rate this $1.00 on a scale of 0.00 to 20.00. Tuscany fans and Diane Lane fans should only rent this movie, otherwise it is a big waste of film.

Welcome to the US Taliban

This is an inset to an Article I will be writing for GoSee Magazine.

Janet Jackson has done more then just show us her breasts it seems.  With the world watching, Janet flashed her mostly covered nipple to the agast of millions.  Imagine siting in a dry river with just a dam made of sticks holding back the water. Janet Jacksons breast was the leak and now the dam has collapsed and we are delooged with regulations, censorship and politics.

Among my travels, I have talked to people regarding this, and I have yet to find anyone who was offended by the Super Bowl half time show.  Most were amused by the stunt, and could really care less.  Is it that our society has become numb to these images, or is it that our society is mature enough to handle it?  When I mention Society, I do not mean, in any way, the Government or the Media who has created this monster.  They have proven time and time again, they have no idea what the American people want or need.  It is kind of sad, that we are lead by a bunch of money grubbing, yes men who have run this country into the ground.  I have seen more shrugged shoulders in regards to this situation. "What can you do?"

I would like to sit here and yell atop of a soap box and say "grab your torches and march to a new America!" But that will just land me in a mental institution, no one is going to change America. The witch hunt is on, and it is sad that this is 2004, and we have reverted back to 1930 traditions of propaganda.  Howard Stern has taken the brunt of the indecency revival, which just makes me think, why is he so bad NOW compared to the past 25 years?  Clear Channel is a horrible company, even before yanking Howard Stern.  To fold so quickly to the demands of so few... it is pathetic...

Unfortunately there is no courtcase to justify this action.  The land that was found upon Freedom, upon the freedom of speech and upon the seperation of Religion and government has turned full circle.  Broadcasting companies are racing around to satisfy the wants of a small minority of people, while the vast majority will suffer.  C-Span aired the indecency hearing and as far as I could stomach it, it was nothing more then a "yes sir" hearing.  THe hearing was filled with Yes men and everything the FCC wanted to hear.  Quite pathetic really, quite pathetic.

So here we sit, unable to do anything.  We are just watching the FCC and US Government bully there way to their satisfaction.  No one has the right to regulate what is indecent and what isn't, yet it is happening right before our very eyes.  How is this American? How is this Patriotic? Regulate our choices, our rights our freedom all in the name of what? All in the name of something that is so vague, not even Larry king could debate it to its finality.

Welcome to the US taliban.  Push through laws under a single persons opinion. This country was founded on freedom and seperation of Government and religion... I pray that we can keep it that way. But if things continue to progress the way they are, we wont have a choice anylonger. It will have been taken away.
