Diane Lane stars in what should be labeled a "chick flick." Renting this movie was not all my taking, the graphic design done on the box cover is masterful. The combination of color and graphic is superb. Unfortunately that is where the props end. Boy, do they end quickly. A quick synopsis of the film goes something like this. A book reviewer turning writer learns of her husbands adultery. She kinda flips and goes on some trip her friends force on her. She moves to Italy. Thats it... That is the plot, the entire story and pretty much all you need to know about this movie except that it sucked. Diane Lanes character Frances is the only character that actually gets developed to some point, but even so, not to the extent it could be. The other supporting characters are quite random and poorly placed. It is as though the plot equaled the character development, a big hodge podge of disarray. Frances love story was horrible, and the one that she ended up with (as far as I could tell by the wuick end of the movie) we saw in maybe 2 scenes. The sub plot of a young polsih man and a young italian girl was spotty and poorly put together also. You can guess the cinematography was wonderful. There was ranging landscapes of the beautiful Tuscany country side to well shot scenes from within the city. It was the only bright spot within the movie really. There was absolutely no action, no real sexy moments, unless you calls eeing Diane Lanes panties sexy, and the acting was poor at best. The fact that Frances has all this money to buy and live in Tuscany with no means of a job are amazing. Can I live in that little world for a couple years, I mean living high off the hog, eating great and living in some remodeled Villa in the middle of a beautiful country? Where do I sign up. The shear unb eleivableness is enough to turn you off. I seen more realism in a Star Wars film. I am not sure a movie could be much worse. A chick flick it was, but even a Chick who likes those flicks would be severely dissappointed. I rate this $1.00 on a scale of 0.00 to 20.00. Tuscany fans and Diane Lane fans should only rent this movie, otherwise it is a big waste of film. |
